Today Was Heavy, But I Carried It Anyway

Choosing Positivity Even When It’s Hard

Some days, you wake up and just know.. it’s going to be one of those days. That was me today. I opened my eyes and felt the weight in my chest before my feet even hit the floor. No real reason. Just a quiet sadness that likes to show up uninvited sometimes..

But here’s the thing, I’m learning not to fight it so hard. Instead, I try to hold space for it, acknowledge it, and still move forward. That’s been part of my mental wellness journey, accepting that I can feel low and still be doing well.. kind of.

I didn’t jump out of bed with energy today. I moved slowly. I made my coffee, sat by the window, and just breathed. Sometimes, that’s all I need in the morning, a little sunlight and a moment to remind myself that even when things feel heavy, they do pass.

“You’re doing better than you think. Just by showing up, you’re proving your strength.”

That quote stayed in my head today. I came across it on Pinterest a while ago and it just stuck with me, like my brain knew I’d need it one day. Turns out, today was that day.

I didn’t have a packed to-do list. I didn’t accomplish anything impressive. But I got through the day with intention. I chose to take care of myself the best I could. I drank my water, I ate something nourishing, and I kept reminding myself that I deserve kindness, especially from myself.

The Little Things Matter

One of the things I’ve been reflecting on lately is how much the little things count. When your mental health isn’t at its best, everything can feel like a mountain. But if I can make the bed, respond to one message, or even step outside for five minutes of fresh air, that’s something! That’s me showing up for myself.

Today I lit a candle I’d been saving for a “better day.” And let me tell you, it smells insanely good! It’s called Relax from Allswell, and it’s made with a calming blend of lavender, jasmine, and chamomile with a coconut wax base. The scent instantly made my space feel more peaceful, and it honestly helped me breathe a little deeper.

Just to be super clear, this isn’t sponsored, and I’m not making any money from sharing this. I just genuinely love it, and if something helps me feel a little more grounded, I want to pass it along. A cozy scent can be such a simple but powerful way to shift your mood.

The Power of a Positive Mindset

Let me be real, it takes effort to keep a positive mindset on the tough days. But that’s why it’s called a practice. It’s not about toxic positivity or pretending everything’s fine. It’s about gently redirecting my focus from what’s going wrong to what’s still going right.

Even if that’s just:

  • I woke up today.
  • I took a shower.
  • I made someone smile.
  • I showed myself love.

That’s resilience. That’s strength. That’s mental health work in real time.

Rest Is Productive, Too

Something what I’m still learning is that rest is not lazy. It’s necessary. I used to feel guilty for taking breaks or doing nothing. But now I see those moments of stillness as a part of healing. Today, I didn’t push myself. I listened to my body. I journaled a little. I cried a little too.. And that’s okay. That’s human.

How I’m Ending the Day

Tonight, I’m wrapping up with gratitude. Not because everything is perfect, but because I made it through a tough day, and that deserves recognition.

I’m grateful for my inner strength, even when it feels quiet.

I’m grateful for the space to feel what I need to feel.

And I’m grateful for this journey, as uneven as it might be. Because every step, no matter how small, is still forward.

If you’re reading this and you’re having a similar day, I want you to know you’re not alone. Keep your chin up. Be gentle with yourself. You don’t have to have it all figured out. Just breathe, stay kind to your mind, and remember, you’re doing better than you think.

I’m Fifi

I’m so glad you’re here. I’m a big lover of coffee and quiet mornings lol, but most importantly, I’m someone who’s been navigating the ups and downs of mental health for a while now.

Living with anxiety and moments of depression hasn’t been easy, but it’s also what inspired me to start this blog. Writing helps me process, reflect, and heal, and my hope is that by sharing my journey, you’ll feel a little less alone in yours.

This space is my safe zone for all things mental wellness, self-care, and gentle reminders that it’s okay to not have it all figured out. If you love heart-to-hearts, healing chats, and little cozy rituals (like journaling with a cup of coffee in hand), you’ll fit right in here.

Let’s grow through what we go through, together 💛
